Stayin' Fly Since 2012

Picture
Despite popular belief, the Potomac River is not an urban wasteland. Instead, the waters surrounding the Nation's Capital play home to one of the more diverse and at times - electric fisheries in the entire country.

Although definitely urban water, the river and its surrounding areas are a healthy, sustainable ecosystem that harbor a bevy of game fish. An incredible mixed-bag fishery, anglers typically pursue trophy-sized largemouth and smallmouth bass throughout the tidal zone of the Potomac, with healthy populations of panfish (sunfish, crappie, bluegill), carp, garfish, and world-record size northern snakeheads offering opportunities for unique trophies on any given day.

This exceptionally diverse fishery peaks with a historically renown seasonal run of American Shad, Hickory Shad, and Striped Bass in the spring. But rest assured, if urban fishing is not your game - there are fish to catch in wild places. Day trips to the upper branches of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers produce world class smallmouth fishing an hour away from the city, while the mountains streams of Virginia and Maryland (about 2hrs outside DC) offer good to excellent fishing for rainbow, brook, and brown trout. If you're looking to fish in the DC area or just need some helpful advice, let us help.

The world is your oyster - let us help you shuck it.

Here at FlyTimesDC - an associate-guide service of National Bass Guide Service in Alexandria, Virginia - our mission is to put clients on fish and make them better anglers. This means working together to improve a client's entire angling skill set, which includes but is not limited to - casting ability, fly selection, and knowledge of feeding patterns of predatory gamefish in our local fisheries. In short, if a client is in a rut - we do our best to help them break out of it by opening their eyes to a new technique or perhaps showing them a local spot they never would have thought to wet a line at. On our trip, we will focus on reading the water together and making the necessary adjustments needed to ignite the bite as a team, all while sharing some laughs and good times along the way.

With over 30 years of combined fishing experience in and around the Washington, D.C metro area (VA, MD, WV), Florida Gulf Coast, Bahamas, Cape Cod, and Smoky Mountains, we know what it takes to get the job done.
